It looks like the first big change that Lenovo will make to Motorola will be getting it to release much bigger phones. Both the rumored Moto X+1 and Motorola Nexus 6 are said to feature screens bigger than 5-inches, and a new report from GSM Arena claims the upcoming Moto G sequel will also have a huge display.
The next-gen Moto G – which could be launched as the Moto G2 or Moto G+1 as early as September 10 for €250 or $335 – will have a 5-inch display. The information comes directly from a Motorola exec, who shared it with an unnamed retailer.
The publication did the math and found that the next-gen Moto G2 will have double the original Moto G price and cost about 25% more than the Moto G 4G model.
It’s not clear when the G2 will be unveiled, although GSM Arena says that some retailers may get the handset as early as the end of August. Thus, it seem logical for the handset to make an appearance at IFA 2014, although Motorola is yet to make any announcements regarding its IFA plans. At the same trade show, Samsung will unveil the Galaxy Note 4, and Sony will likely bring out new Xperia Z models.
According to a previously leaked benchmark test, the Moto G will pack a 5-inch display with 720p resolution, 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, 1GB of RAM, 8-megapixel rear camera, 2-megapixel front-facing camera, and Android 4.4.4 KitKat under the hood. So while the new Moto G will be more expensive than the original model, at those specs it still strikes us as a pretty good bargain.
