Microsoft’s 128GB Surface Pro sells out across the country, limited supply the likely culprit

BGR reviewed Microsoft’s Surface Pro last week and while it’s hardly a perfect PC for the tablet age, we said those who do purchase the second Surface will not be disappointed. Microsoft (MSFT) subsequently launched the Surface Pro this past Saturday and according to several reports, the 128GB version sold out quickly in several stores and online.

Engadget notes that Microsoft’s larger slate sold out online from Microsoft’s store as well as Best Buy and Staples, and Paul Thurrott adds that the 128GB sold out quickly at some of Microsoft’s physical stores, where there were reportedly “Apple-like” lines. Thurrott does note that supply was likely very limited in many cases though, and other reports suggest some third-party retail stores got just one or two 128GB Surface Pro units each.

Microsoft has confirmed Surface Pro stock-outs and said it is working to get more inventory to retailers as quickly as it can.

“Customer response to the launch of Surface Pro has been amazing,” Microsoft’s head of the Surface team Panos Panay wrote in a blog post. “We’re working with our retail partners who are currently out of stock of the 128GB Surface Pro to replenish supplies as quickly as possible. Our priority is to ensure that every customer gets their new Surface Pro as soon as possible.”
