Microsoft’s latest Internet-ready phone costs just $29

Microsoft announced on Monday that its next Nokia device will be one of the cheapest ever released. The Nokia 215 is a $29 Internet-ready phone designed specifically for newcomers to the world of mobile devices. Equipped with the Opera Mini browser, Bing search, MSN Weather, Twitter and Facebook, this dirt-cheap device has many smartphone essentials at just a fraction of the cost.

According to the press release, the Nokia 215 will feature a 2.4-inch, 320 x 240 QVGA display, 1100 mAh battery, VGA camera, up to 32GB of external storage and will run on the Nokia Series 30+ OS. Even with that tiny battery, the Nokia 215 will still allow for up to 20 hours of talk time, 29 days of standby time and 50 hours of MP3 playback.

“With our ultra-affordable mobile phones and digital services, we see an inspiring opportunity to connect the next billion people to the Internet for the first time,” said Jo Harlow, corporate vice president of Microsoft Devices Group. “The Nokia 215 is perfect for people looking for their first mobile device, or those wanting to upgrade to enjoy affordable digital and social media services, like Facebook and Messenger.”

There will be both Single SIM and Dual SIM models of the Nokia 215 in Bright Green, Black and White, and roll out is expected to begin in select markets in the Middle East, Africa, Asia and Europe during the first quarter of 2015.
