20 years before he won his first Academy Award for Best Actor, Matthew McConaughey had his breakout role playing David Wooderson, a somewhat creepy 20-something guy who still loved hanging out with high schoolers in the film Dazed and Confused. Now a new video of the young McConaughey auditioning for the film has surfaced and it really shows how he had the role nailed pretty much from the start.

McConaughey’s Texas drawl fit perfectly for the character, especially when he delivered the classic sleazeball line, “That’s what I love about high school girls — I keep getting older but they still stay the same age.”

After this film, McConaughey would win wide acclaim for his starring role in A Time to Kill and since then has become one of Hollywood’s most consistently great actors who is best known for his Oscar-winning role in Dallas Buyers Club and for starring alongside Woody Harrelson in HBO’s True Detective.
