Just when you thought the little bugger was going to be relegated to the junk yard, Apple shows a little heart. According to AppleInsider, the company is getting ready to apply a series of updates to the Mac Mini line, bringing the specs up to date and saving the tiny box from extinction. Among the expected changes include:
- 45nm Intel Core 2 Duo processor starting at 2.16 Ghz
- 800 mhz Front-side bus
- Intel GMA X3100 graphics processor (identical to the chip currently found in the Macbook line)
While these upgrades certainly won’t help the Mini break any speed or performance records, they should help to keep the Mini relevant as Apple’s cheapest, entry-level machine. No word on whether the price will increase or remain the same, but we’re certainly hoping for the latter. Also no specific timeline for the release, but if yo’ve been pondering a Mac Mini purchase, we’d suggest you hold off for a little longer, as AppleInsider’s track record for this sort of thing is pretty good.
