Although the brilliant Last Week Tonight With John Oliver still isn’t back to its regularly scheduled programming, the comedian has given fans a special New Year’s treat with a brand-new video posted on YouTube.

The subject of this particular segment was New Year’s Eve and why it’s the absolute worst despite its reputation as a festive time. Oliver points out the New Year’s Eve is so bad because it combines three utterly miserable activities: “Forced interaction with strangers; being drunk, cold and tired; and being forced to stare at Ryan Seacrest for five solid minutes waiting for him to tell you what the time is.”
After this, Oliver gives us all tips for getting out of New Year’s Eve activities and staying out of the supposed “celebration” all together.
