Apple (AAPL) on Monday announced that its popular iPhone 5 handset will launch in more than 50 additional countries this month. Apple sold more than 5 million iPhone 5 smartphones during the device’s first weekend of availability, and analysts believe heavy demand will result in Apple’s biggest quarter ever for iPhone sales during the holiday quarter. Recent channel checks showing market-leading iPhone sales give Apple a good chance of matching the Steet’s lofty expectations, and the addition of more than 50 new markets this month including China, South Korea and Russia will certainly won’t hurt either. Apple’s press release follows below.
