Apple released a beta version of its first update to iOS 8.1 on Tuesday, November 4th, and it included a few important changes. Beyond a handful of good bug fixes, the software provided some much-needed stability and performance improvements to older iOS devices including the iPad 2, the third- and fourth-generation iPads, and the iPhone 4S.
Now, iOS 8.1.1 has been released to the public and is ready to be downloaded.

iOS 8.1.1 is available immediately as an over the air (OTA) update or as a download from iTunes. Of course, millions of people still don’t have enough free storage on their iPhones and iPads to actually download and install the update, so they have no choice but to use iTunes. If you go this route, however, make sure you backup all of your data first.
To install iOS 8.1.1 as an OTA update, simple go to Settings > General > Software Update on your compatible iPhone, iPad or iPod touch and follow the on-screen instructions.
Apple’s new iOS 8.1.1 update can be installed on the following devices: iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5, iPhone 4s, iPad Air, iPad mini with Retina display, iPad mini, iPad (third- and fourth-generation), iPad 2 and fifth-generation iPod touch.
