An easy guide to freeing up a huge chunk of storage on your iPhone

Increase iPhone Storage Space

We’re all in agreement that 16GB models don’t belong in flagship lineups anymore, but it’s the reality we live in, and one that many iPhone users are faced with on a daily basis. One of the most frustrating things about having so little space is the paltry amount of music you can fit on your phone.

Thankfully, Business Insider has put together a quick guide to show you how to make your music take up a lot less room.

Audiophiles beware! This does involve limiting the quality of your audio files, so if anything less than lossless makes you break out into a cold sweat, this guide isn’t for you. Then again, you probably have more than enough room on your device anyway if you’re that into high quality tunes.

On to the guide! The first thing you need to do is plug in your iPhone and head to the “Summary” tab on iTunes. In the “Options” section, you should see a box that reads:

Convert high bit rate songs to _____ AAC

That blank represents a drop-down menu from which you can choose what bit rate you want to convert your music to. The lower the bit rate, the smaller the file size, freeing up your iPhone for hundreds of additional songs. Once you’ve chosen a bit rate, hit the sync button and the converted music will automatically be transferred to your device.
