Reporting results for fiscal year 2014 on Tuesday, Take-Two Interactive revealed that the enormously popular Grand Theft Auto V has now shipped over 33 million copies. Rockstar’s latest title, which accounted for over half of all game software sales in the month it launched, has generated well over $1 billion for Take-Two, contributing heavily to one of the most successful years in the publisher’s history.

“During fiscal 2014, Take-Two set new records for both our Company and the entertainment industry,” said Strauss Zelnick, Chairman and CEO of Take-Two. “Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto V reached $1 billion in sales faster than any entertainment release in history, NBA 2K14 enjoyed the franchise’s strongest launch, Borderlands 2 became 2K’s top-selling title, and our digitally-delivered revenue grew to its highest level ever. As a result, we delivered record revenue, earnings and cash flow for our shareholders.”

Rockstar has kept GTA V relevant months after its release with a steady stream of updates to the game’s online component, Grand Theft Auto Online. Just this week Rockstar launched The High Life Update, featuring new cars, missions, clothes and features for both the single-player and online modes of the game.

Take-Two is expecting another breakout performance from its host of top developers and publishers next year, banking on the releases of 2K’s lineup, which includes Evolve, Civilization: Beyond Earth and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. Although there hasn’t yet been any official word on the matter, Rockstar is also expected to bring an upgraded version of Grand Theft Auto V to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 before the end of the year.
