Those of us on the East coast are in full lockdown mode due to Hurricane Sandy, and Google (GOOG) is doing its part to help us stay safe. Google.org, the search engine giant’s philanthropic endeavor, has built a terrific map that not only tracks the hurricane in real time but also provides a comprehensive list of Red Cross shelters along the East coast that regularly give updates showing how close they are to reaching capacity. The map also provides a list of all public alerts for storm surges, blizzard warnings and more. To view the map for yourself, click here.
