New reports from South Korean publication DDaily reveal that this year’s flagship Android smartphones will be even faster than their predecessors, not only because top devices will have impressive processors, but also because they’re going to have significantly faster memory as well.

Specifically, the publication says that local RAM manufacturer SK Hynix said that the LG G Flex 2 will be the first handset to pack 8Gb LPDDR4 RAM technology. LPDDR4 memory is supposed to be twice as fast as LPDDR3 — 3,200Mbps compared to 1,600Mbps data transfers — and more efficient.
In addition to LG, Samsung will also equip the Galaxy S6 with similarly fast RAM, as the company has already started mass-producing its own LPDDR4 chips. The publication says Samsung in late January already confirmed that this year’s premium smartphones will ship with LPDDR4 RAM on board.
BGR previously reported that the Galaxy S6 will have 3GB of LPDDR4 RAM on board.
The G Flex 2 is already confirmed to pack 3GB of RAM, but flagship devices that will to launch in the second half of the year are expected to have as much as 4GB of RAM.
