In our review of the Galaxy Note 3, we said it was probably the best smartphone Samsung had ever made. It therefore stands to reason that Samsung would ensure that its “gadget spam” strategy is extended to cover the new phablet, shipments of which rocketed to 10 million units in just 60 days. According to a new report from Korean-language ET News, Samsung has developed a “Galaxy Note 3 Lite” that has just entered mass production.

The new device will reportedly maintain the same screen size and S Pen stylus functionality as the flagship Note 3, however it will feature an LCD display, a downgraded 8-megapixel camera and other less expensive components that will help drive the price of the handset down.

The Galaxy Note 3 Lite is expected to be unveiled in February at the annual Mobile World Congress trade show, and it should be released shortly thereafter. According to ET News, Samsung projects that the lower-cost Note 3 Lite will account for 30% of Note 3 family sales when all is said and done.
