That didn’t take too long, now did it? Just two days after iPhoneSimFree released the first widely available software unlock solution for the iPhone, a group of madmen working for the greater good, the iPhone Dev Team, appears to be working on a free solution. Details are a bit scarce at the moment, but word on the street is that the team will be releasing a piece of software that will completely unlock your iPhone within a couple of hours. The software will be hosted on a currently unspecified server. The great part? This bit of code will be available completely free of charge. Apparently iPhoneSimFree’s unlock process wasn’t all that hard to crack. If this turns out to be true, we could see an incredible influx of unlocked iPhones by the end of the day…sorry, AT&T. The run was good while it lasted, though.
UPDATE: Looks like the first release works. It is not for the average user though as this involves many commands in ssh and required the manual starting and stopping of the CommCenter, etc.
UPDATE 2: HaRRo, the madmen behind the unlock, are promising a GUI-wrapped application for the fainthearted among us. No specific timeframe has been given, but taking the incredible momentum behind this process, we wouldn’t be surprised if it surfaced before sunrise. Yeah!
