In an effort to make the transition to next-gen consoles as painless as possible this holiday season, Activision and Sledgehammer Games have decided to include free PS4 and Xbox One upgrades with every digital copy of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare on PS3 and Xbox 360. As long as you buy or redeem a digital copy of the game before March 31st, 2015, you’ll be able to upgrade within the same family of consoles without paying a dime.
There are a few things worth noting about this offer, the most important being that physical copies of the game are not eligible for the free upgrade. If you think you might dive into the new generation at some point after the game launches, be sure to purchase it from the PlayStation Store or the Xbox Games Store on your last-gen console.
On the other hand, any DLC purchased for the game, including the season pass, can be upgraded to the PS4 or Xbox One regardless of where it was acquired. As long as the DLC is active on your account, it will appear on both consoles.
Even more importantly, your progress will carry over from one console to the next as well. Whether or not you decide to participate in this program, your multiplayer stats and gear are shared in the same console family so that you can seamlessly switch from PS3 to PS4 or Xbox 360 to Xbox One and back again.
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare will be available for PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC on November 4th, 2014.
