BlackBerry Vs. Android Security

So now that Google is working with Samsung to push its Knox mobile security system out to a wider number of Android phones, is BlackBerry CEO John Chen worried? Well, he probably is, which is why he’s decided to write up a new “BlackBerry Fact Check” of Samsung’s Knox system over at BlackBerry’s official company blog.

“While we applaud Google and Samsung for their plans, we don’t think it’s enough for security-minded enterprises,” Chen writes. “Instead, look to companies that have literally invested three decades into advancing the twin causes of security and productivity. In other words, don’t be dazzled by those who can talk the security talk. Instead, look to the company that has proven repeatedly that it can walk the walk.”

And… that’s it. That’s Chen’s entire “fact check” of Knox. This surprises us because BlackBerry has plenty of specific things that it could have pointed to if it wanted to show that Knox isn’t up to snuff.

Over the past year, Knox has had a very rocky rollout and it’s been hit with complaints from customers about delays and major reported security holes. We aren’t public relations experts but we think fact-checking Knox with actual facts about its many failures might be a more effective argument for businesses than simply saying that Samsung can’t “walk the walk” and leaving it at that.
