Forget Black Friday, Thanksgiving Day is when all the best sales are this year

Spending time with family and reflecting on what we’re most thankful for on Thanksgiving may soon be a thing of the past in America, where the deeply discounted deals Black Friday is known for has spilled over to Thanksgiving Day. The Associated Press cites data from research firm MarketTrack and Adobe’s market research arm in reporting that the best deals of the season will be available not on Black Friday this year, but one day earlier on Thanksgiving.

BGR has spent the past two weeks telling you everything you need to know about Black Friday 2014 to get the best deals around, and there is absolutely no question that retailers are pinning their hopes on huge Thanksgiving Day sales to help boost revenue growth this year.

Nearly every major nationwide retailer in the country is starting Black Friday early this year, and often times the best doorbuster deals are being made available on Thursday instead of Friday.

AP also notes that there is more variety on Thanksgiving Day than on Black Friday this year in some key categories. For example, MarketTrack found 86 big discounts on laptops at Best Buy, Wal-Mart and a few other big stores that will be available on Thursday. On Black Friday, only nine big laptop deals will be available from the same group of stores.

“I feel guilty for going out on Thanksgiving, but the deals are so much more attractive to me than on Black Friday,” one shopper told AP.

MarketTrack’s marketing VP Traci Gregorski noted that the big early push could have a negative impact for some retailers, though. Many people who don’t go shopping on Thanksgiving Day may find that the deals they go out to hunt on Black Friday are already sold out, leading to disappointment and frustration.

“It probably behooves the customer to shop earlier on Thanksgiving,” Sears spokesman Brian Hanover said.
