Black Friday and Cyber Monday Tips and Tricks

Making the most of Black Friday and Cyber Monday shopping deals might not always be an easy task, but the shopping advice site Rather Be Shopping has put together a handy list of tips and tricks that will help buyers get the best possible deals on the Christmas shopping season’s most important shopping events.

FROM EARLIER: Forget Black Friday, Thanksgiving Day is when all the best sales are this year

The guide focuses specifically on Cyber Monday, alerting buyers that Cyber Monday might actually bring some more impressive deals than Black Friday, at least for certain types of products.

For example, the best name brand TV deals are expected for Cyber Monday, rather than Black Friday, when “all of the amazing doorbuster deals are from third tier manufacturers that you’ve never heard of.”

The same goes for laptop purchases, especially higher-end models. “Budget laptops (ie, pieces of crap) are in full force on Black Friday. Systems that are OK for surfing the web, posting pictures of your cat on Facebook, and answering email, but that’s about it. If you need a laptop for running productivity software, video editing, or running multiple programs at once, you’ll want to shop for a higher quality laptop on Cyber Monday,” Rather Be Shopping adds.

Tablet deals are going to be good on both Black Friday and Cyber Monday, and that’s likely similar for smartphone purchases as well.

When it comes to popular game consoles such as the Xbox One or PlayStation 4, Cyber Monday might bring even better sales than Black Friday, the publication warns.

Moreover, Rather Be Shopping says users should avoid buying Christmas toys on Cyber Monday, and instead focus on home goods and apparel, which usually get much better discounts.

Additional tips on saving even more money on Black Friday and Cyber Monday include trying to get free shipping on purchases (the same publication has put together an extensive list of stores offering free shipping), hunting for coupon codes, and looking for special post-Black Friday deals on eBay, where some Black Friday shoppers try to make a quick profit on the discounted electronic devices they purchased.

“[The] good news for you is that with the saturated eBay market you’re going to score a deal and end up paying only slightly more than if you had stood in line at 11 pm on Thanksgiving night,” the site says.
