This day was bound to come, but it’s still a little bittersweet. Big box retailer Best Buy has announced that they will be dropping all televisions that don’t have some form of digital tuner. The move, of course, is being carried out in anticipation of the February 17th, 2009 lights out date for analog broadcast TV set by the FCC. This date, which has been pushed back repeatedly, is supposed to mark the day that TV will no longer be broadcasted in the analog realm. Analog to digital converters will be available, so that “old” set won’t be rendered completely useless, but best believe that it will continue to get harder to find one of the analog dinosaurs as the years progress. Anyone down to check the sales rack at your local Best Buy? We’re guessing they’re having a fire sale.
