BGR reported on Monday that a number of new iPad owners were encountering overheating issues with their tablets. After a period of usage, the iPads would become so hot that they would display an error message and shut down. While this overheating issue only appears to affect a small percentage of iPad owners, the issue could stem from the fact that Apple’s new tablet runs 18% hotter in general compared to the iPad 2. Infrared temperature readings captured by Tweakers.net after just five minutes of benchmark tests showed that the new iPad was running at 92.5 degrees Fahrenheit, nearly 10 degrees hotter than the iPad 2 after five minutes of the same tests. The new iPad features a new dual-core A5X processor with quad-core graphics as well as a larger battery and a power-gulping Retina Display with four times more pixels than its predecessor, all of which could help explain the heat that tends to build up within the device’s aluminum case. BGR reviewed the new Apple tablet earlier this week and found it to be an improvement over the industry-leading iPad 2 in nearly every way.
