Apple (AAPL) on Thursday denied reports of layoffs within its retail stores, but confirmed that some staff changes were made. Dow Jones Newswires spoke to Apple, and it says the company is calling recent retail staff changes a “mistake” that will soon be reversed. The company denied reports that it is terminating recent hires, however, and it said stores are still hiring. Reports surfaced on Monday claiming that Apple was laying off a “significant” number of retail workers who had been employed for less than six months in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. The Cupertino, California-based company also was reportedly failing to deliver pay raises promised to recently promoted employees, and was planning to demote some workers back to their previous positions. Dow Jones Newswires has not yet published its report.
