Apple iPhone 6S preorders ‘on pace to beat 10M’ in first-weekend record

Apple iPhone 6s Preorders 10 Million

Apple on Monday announced that the iPhone 6s is actually on pace to beat the record preorders it received for last year’s iPhone 6, which racked up 10 million preoders within three days. In an official statement given to CNBC on Monday, Apple said it was seeing “very strong” demand worldwide for its newest iPhones that it unveiled at a major press event last week.

Although demand for the new iPhones has been strong, Apple has expressed confidence that it will have enough to meet demand when the device releases to retail outlets later this week.

“As many customers noticed, the online demand for iPhone 6s Plus has been exceptionally strong and exceeded our own forecasts for the preorder period,” the company said. “We are working to catch up as quickly as we can, and we will have iPhone 6s Plus as well as iPhone 6s units available at Apple retail stores when they open next Friday.”

The new iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus will be the first iPhones to feature the 3D Touch technology that Apple first started using with the Apple Watch and its 2015 MacBook. Preorders for the new devices kicked off over the weekend and several analysts predicted Apple would have a tough time repeating last year’s record-breaking preorder numbers.
