Remember when we thought iTunes Radio would be a legitimate competitor to Pandora? Well that was foolish of us because iTunes Radio hasn’t done anything to disrupt, let alone “kill,” music streaming services such as Pandora and Spotify.

For the record, this was one of the reasons that Apple decided to shell out billions to buy up Beats, so it could have a legitimately good music streaming service to offer its customers. And Apple can’t launch its revamped Beats Music service fast enough because, as The Loop’s Jim Dalrymple points out, iTunes Radio is simply godawful at this point.

Why is iTunes Radio the worst? Dalrymple explains that when his parents were recently in town, he used iTunes Radio to set up a playlist of ’70s songs he thought they’d appreciated. However, iTunes Radio’s “’70s Radio” station delivered nothing but R&B songs that were released over the last decade. Why iTunes Radio would pick out Dwele and Anthony David for a “’70s Radio” station is anyone’s guess but it’s safe to say this is not the sort of thing people looking for ’70s music have in mind.

“So I fired up Spotify, Rdio, Pandora, and iHeart Radio,” Dalrymple concludes. “Each of those services delivered some nice 70s music like I wanted.”
