If you’re like most Android users — that is, you bought your phone from a third-party OEM through your carrier — then you aren’t going to see Android 5.1 Lollipop for a while. That’s why you should definitely watch a new video posted by Tim Schofield in which he shows off all of Android 5.1 Lollipop’s best new features.

FROM EARLIER: Google’s big Android 5.1 Lollipop update is here – these are the best new features

Among other things, Schofield walks us through a subtle change Google made to the lock screen to make unlocking the device faster, a new option that will keep your device locked if you report your device as being stolen, new ways to more quickly access nearby Wi-Fi networks or paired Bluetooth devices from your quick settings screen and changes to make the screen pinning feature more intuitive.

For most Android users, the most important change will be to the heads-up notification system that has been the focus of many complaints about Android 5.0.

“Before you could only swipe [notifications] away to completely dismiss it or you could tap on it and go to the specific application,” Schofield explains of problems people have had with the system. “Now you can actually swipe up and it dismisses [the notification] but it stays in the notification bar.”
