Ice Cream Sandwich finally gaining steam as share jumps to 16%

Updated Dec 19th, 2018 8:31PM EST

Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich seems to finally be catching on. The latest numbers from the Android Developers blog show that Ice Cream Sandwich is now on nearly 16% of all Android devices, an increase of five percentage points from the 11% Android device share ICS claimed last month. This momentum is significant because ICS for many months plodded along as manufacturers took their time updating devices, and many older devices were stuck using Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Gingerbread is still the most dominant version of Android by a huge margin, as it accounts for more than 60% of all Android devices currently in use, but this isn’t really a surprise since 2012 is the year of Gingerbread. Now if only Android 4.1 Jelly Bean would pick up steam…
