While the Apple Watch is getting a lot of attention heading into Monday’s big Apple “Spring Forward” event, we also shouldn’t overlook the 12-inch Retina MacBook Air that the company is expected to unveil as well. The Telegraph’s sources claim that Apple will take the wraps off its first-ever MacBook Air with a Retina display on Monday and the publication confirms that the laptop will feature a 12-inch display.
FROM EARLIER: It looks like Apple will start selling new products today – but what?
With the new MacBook reportedly coming, we thought it would be a good time to refresh everyone’s memories about what the new device will be like, as based on some earlier reports from 9to5Mac.
First, the new MacBook is going to be roughly the same overall size as the 11-inch MacBook Air despite having a display that’s one inch bigger. It will accomplish this be eliminating a lot of unused space, particularly on the side of the device. Essentially, we expect the 12-inch MacBook Air to have virtually no space between the edge of its keyboard and the edge of the laptop itself.
The 12-inch MacBook Air will also be radically redesigned in terms of ports. In fact, it’s going to be the first MacBook to ditch several key ports from previous models, including full-sized USB ports, MagSafe connectors and SD card slots. Instead it seems the new ultra-thin MacBook will have one USB Type-C port and a headphone jack… and that’s it.
At any rate, we have only 90 minutes or so until we find out for certain and the new MacBook Air is definitely something we’re excited to see, especially if 9to5Mac’s reports pan out as they almost always do.
