Walmart decided that Cyber Monday shouldn’t be a Monday thing, Reuters reports. The retailer’s Cyber Monday deals will be available on Walmart.com beginning on the Sunday after Thanksgiving, rather than early on Monday.
“The customers have changed but Cyber Monday hasn’t changed with them,” Walmart CEO Fernando Madeira told Reuters. “Now everyone has Internet,” he explained, which means the online shopping event shouldn’t only take place on a work day anymore.
All of Walmart’s Cyber Monday promotions will be available online on Sunday, November 29th, starting at 8:00 p.m. EST. The retailer will have 2,000 online-only specials during Cyber Monday, a four-fold increase compared to last year when it only had 500 special deals for the online shipping day.
Research from Adobe estimates that Cyber Monday sales will reach $3 billion for the first time, up 12% compared to last year, while Black Friday sales will bring in $2.7 billion, or 15% more than in 2015.
