The WWDC keynote is finally behind us and Apple Music is officially the latest entrant into the competitive streaming music market. While Apple spent a good deal of time yesterday detailing the myriad of features that differentiate its own music service from the rest of the pack, there’s one significant metric that Apple didn’t even have time to mention — the size of its music library.
DON’T MISS: iOS 9 is spectacular… and I just uninstalled it
With streaming already positioned as the way most of us will digest music in the future, having a deep music library is imperative. In fact, Apple in that regard puts all other services to shame.
The following graphic, courtesy of The Wall Street Journal, shows that Apple’s iTunes Music library is the best in the business, with 20% more tracks than both Spotify and Google Play and nearly 50% more tracks than Tidal. Pandora, surprisingly, only has a library of about 1.5 million songs.
Once Apple Music officially launches on June 30, expect the company to aggressively secure exclusive launches from big name artists to further differentiate its offerings from rivals. Recent reports have even suggested that Apple is trying to get Kanye West’s next album, titled Swish, to be an Apple Music launch exclusive.
