It’s no secret that Uber is interested in cutting costs by replacing current cars with smart self-driving cars in the future. And it looks like the first self-driving cars from Google will not be the only ones performing test drives in the U.S., as Uber is also experimenting with this nifty technology.

The Pittsburgh Business Times has spotted one such car on the city’s streets, and the vehicle was clearly marked with “Uber Advanced Technologies Center.”
“This vehicle is part of our early research efforts regarding mapping, safety and autonomy systems,” Uber spokeswoman Trina Smith told the publication in an email. As can be easily seen in the image, the Uber car has a complex device on top of it that helps with its self-driving capabilities.
Uber didn’t provide additional details about the car or its related plans at this time, and that’s not surprising. Uber isn’t the only company interested in this technology, having to compete with other tech giants including Google and Apple as well as established car makers that are also exploring self-driving vehicles for the future.
A recent report revealed that driving for Uber isn’t a great career choice, especially considering the fact that the company is looking to further drive down its costs, and make its rides even more affordable for customers.
