You might finally be able to find that Sega Dreamcast you’ve been searching for at GameStop in the coming months. On Tuesday, IGN revealed that GameStop is planning to launch a pilot program for sales and trade-ins of classic game consoles, games and accessories in New York City and Birmingham, AL on April 25th.

The program will include consoles, games and accessories stretching all the way back to the original Nintendo Entertainment System, and if it proves successful, the company plans to roll it out nationally “later this year.”
Consoles that will be accepted once the program begins include the NES, Super NES, Sega Genesis, PlayStation, N64, and Sega Dreamcast. GameStop says that the total number of games it offers will grow by “about 5000” with the addition of these consoles. The consoles will also have the same warranty as current-generation consoles.
“We will bring all of the product back through the Refurbishment Operations Center for inspection, testing and repair,” GameStop told IGN. It will be about 2 months between when GameStop begins accepting trade-ins and when these items go back on sale, giving GameStop “time to build up a good assortment for retro games fans to select from when shopping.”
Retro consoles are tragically overpriced at most retailers around the country, so hopefully having a national chain back in the fray will drive down prices and give younger gamers a chance to experience the previous generations without rifling through thrift shops, hoping that yellow SNES they found actually turns on.
