What has Microsoft been doing with Windows Phone all year? It’s a question we’ve been asking ourselves again and again as we’ve watched the likes of Samsung, HTC, LG, Motorola and even OnePlus release one great Android phone after another while the best Microsoft has come up with this year is a Windows Phone version of the HTC One (M8).

However, it looks like Microsoft may finally be getting ready to release a real flagship Windows Phone that will be a proper successor to the Nokia Lumia 1020 that was released all the way back in the summer of 2013. Nowhereelse.fr has snagged some pictures that purportedly show Microsoft’s next major Lumia flagship alongside Apple’s iPhone 6.
As you can see, the device is going to be bigger than the iPhone 6 and will likely have a display of at least 5 inches. Other pictures of the device show it will have a rear-facing camera that’s even more insanely powerful than the one on the Lumia 1020 and will feature a resolution of 50 megapixels.
Pictures of the side of the device show it will also be thicker than the iPhone 6, which shouldn’t be too surprising considering it will have to store a bigger camera module and will be a larger phone overall.
The device in the pictures is just a prototype, however, so it might not be the final version of the upcoming Lumia flagship. Nonetheless, it does give us an idea of where Microsoft is headed with its next major smartphone that it hopes will be able to take on both the iPhone and high-end Android devices.
