Battery life has emerged as a key issue for smartphone buyers and now Apple has added a new feature with iOS 8 that will give you more insight into why your phone’s battery is draining more quickly than you expected. As The Daily Dot points out, iOS 8 has a new Battery Usage feature that will break down exactly which apps are eating up the most power on your phone so you can know to shut them down to save battery life.

LEARN MORE ABOUT iOS 8: How to use iOS 8’s best new features

Accessing this feature is very simple: Click on the Settings icon, then go to General, then Usage and finally to Battery Usage. Once you’ve opened it up you’ll get a breakdown of which apps have consumed the most battery power over the last day or the last week. In the example flagged by The Daily Dot, it looks as though Photos was consuming a lot of battery life while running on background.

Overall, this is a great addition to iOS 8, though as The Daily Dot points out it’s also pretty overdue since Android has had a battery usage tracker for a while now. Even so, it’s definitely something to check out unless you want to end up like one of those people in the Samsung “wall hugger” commercials.
