If you were one of the millions of people who preordered the iPhone 6 last week, you’ll be happy to know that you’ll soon be able to take advantage of another cool feature if you’re also a Verizon subscriber. Verizon announced on Monday that it’s started offering its Advanced Calling 1.0 feature across its entire network for select smartphones, which should provide a significant boost to both voice and video calling quality.
The Advanced Calling 1.0 feature will use Voice over LTE (VoLTE) technology to send voice calls over Verizon’s high-speed LTE network that is typically used only for data transmissions. The carrier says that customers who are using VoLTE-enabled smartphones on its network will be able to take advantage of its HD Voice and Video Calling features that will give you the best looking and best sounding video calls you’ve seen yet on Verizon’s network.
It’s not yet known whether Verizon plans to exclude data used on its VoLTE services from the data caps that it imposes on its LTE data services. However, we can’t imagine Verizon not doing something to exclude LTE video calling from data cap charges since video calls are obviously very data intensive and could really rip through users’ monthly limits very quickly.
