No one is more aware of how hard it is to live with ALS than Stephen Hawking, the world’s most famous physicist who has been suffering from an ALS-related condition for decades now. Because of this, we knew it was only a matter of time before we saw Hawking pop up in an “Ice Bucket Challenge” video of his own to help raise funds for finding a cure for ALS.

Unfortunately, Hawking said that he couldn’t take the Ice Bucket Challenge himself because he had pneumonia last year. However, he did recruit his three children Robert, Lucy and Tim to take the challenge on his behalf, and sure enough, they all enjoyed the wonderful sensation of having cold water dumped on their heads. Hawking also urged everyone who watched the video to donate money to the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA) to help fund research into finding a cure for the disease.

In a way, this video was almost the reverse of Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s Ice Bucket Challenge video in which he designed a contraption that allowed his five children to pull on ropes to make five buckets of cold water pour on him at once.

The full video is worth watching and can be found below.
