Another day, another handful of next-generation iPhone 6 leaks. This time around, Taiwanese actor and pop star Jimmy Lin is back with new photos of a model believed to accurately represent Apple’s upcoming 5.5-inch iPhone phablet, which is reportedly set to be unveiled this October.
FROM EARLIER: A week with iOS 8
Following a pair of photos Lin posted last week that seemingly showed us what the full assembled 4.7-inch iPhone 6 will look like, Lin on Wednesday posted a photo to his Weibo account that shows a 5.5-inch next-generation iPhone model next to an iPhone 5s.
The display is being replaced on the iPhone 5s in the image so it is difficult to compare the two devices, but we can clearly see that the new handset is significantly larger than Apple’s current iPhone models. The design of the 5.5-inch iPhone appears to be very similar to the 4.7-inch model we’ve seen leak several times so far, which aligns with earlier rumors.
Also seen on the 5.5-inch iPhone phablet model is a nearly bezel-free design on the sides of the display, as well as new slim volume buttons and a Touch ID fingerprint scanner.
A pop star might appear to be an unlikely source for iPhone leaks, but it should be noted that Lin posted photos of the iPhone 5 and iPad mini before the devices were unveiled in 2012, and they ended up being legitimate.
Apple is expected to release a completely redesigned 4.7-inch iPhone 6 this coming September — perhaps on September 19th, if Apple partner Deutsche Telekom is to be believed — and then the 5.5-inch model is expected to debut later this year, perhaps in October alongside Apple’s new iWatch.
Lin’s photo follows below.
