An LG G3-based Nexus 6 would be a dream phone for many Android enthusiasts, but LG says Google has not contacted it with Nexus 6 plans just yet, Dutch publication Draad Breuk reports.
LG communications director Ken Hong apparently revealed in an interview that the company was not informed about a Nexus 6 product, joking that he either was ignored when Nexus 6 news was passed around internally, or the company will simply not be making it.
Of course, this wouldn’t be the first time LG denies plans to make the next Nexus handset. Last year, a company exec said LG was not making the Nexus 5, although his comments were later retracted. LG ended up making its second Nexus handset, the G2-based Nexus 5.
It’s not clear whether Google will actually release a Nexus 6 this year, as rumors say the company is getting ready to kill the Nexus family and replace it with an Android Silver program, a continuation of its current Google Play Edition initiative, with LG rumored to work on such an Android Silver device.
The LG exec did not say that Google won’t release a Nexus 6 this year, speculating that maybe a different manufacturer may be in charge of the project, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing for LG, considering that these devices are generally sold at cost.
He also cleared the waters on the Nexus 5 supply issues at launch, revealing that it’s not LG that’s in charge of Nexus stock, but Google. LG simply delivers the amount of phones agreed upon with Google. His statements echoed LG’s stance on Nexus 4 shortages from early 2013, when the company said that Google is at fault for the supply shortages.
