Samsung’s mythical premium Galaxy S5 handset, often referred to as Galaxy S5 Prime, is not yet ready to be unveiled. But images showing the device as well as more rumblings about its potential name have hit the web. Well-known leaker @evleaks has published two images of a Galaxy F handset, which could very well be the metal Galaxy S5 many buyers have been waiting for.
One of the images, which appears to be a press render, clearly shows the device’s metal back cover complete with Galaxy S5-like rear camera and heart rate sensor. The camera and sensor placement on the front side are not consistent with the current Galaxy S5’s design, so this is clearly a different phone.
The second image is a bit blurry, but shows the entire front side of the handset.
“This is the Samsung Galaxy F, claims a tipster,” @evleaks wrote, explaining the second image. “It’s said to be a 5.3-inch QHD, [Snapdragon] 805-powered /replacement/ for the Galaxy S line, meaning there would be no S6. Allegedly launching at an ‘Unpacked Ep 2.’” He further added that this rumor is “completely unconfirmed, unverified, unsubstantiated.”
Samsung is expected to soon unveil the Galaxy S5 Prime, a handset it will apparently need to beat the LG G3. Previous reports have also mentioned the Galaxy F handset name, often describing it as a high-end device.
Many different reports have also indicated that Google is working with OEMs to launch high-end Android devices under the Android Silver brand next year. It’s not clear what that means for Samsung’s Galaxy S line, especially in light of @evleaks’ tipster’s statement that there would be no S6.
