In addition to the Xperia Z2 smartphone and the Xperia Z2 Tablet, Sony also unveiled a mid-range device at MWC 2014: The Xperia M2. Sony claims the new device offers the “best smartphone technology in its class” – in other words, the M2 will be company’s new affordable device to take on similar mid-range phones such as the Galaxy S4 mini and the iPhone 5c.
When it comes to specs, the Xperia M2 will offer a 4.8-inch qHD display (960 x 540) resolution, 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcoom Snapdragon 400 processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of storage, 4G LTE support, NFC, 8-megapixel Exmor RS camera with various dedicated camera software features, 2300mAh battery and Android on board – Sony says that the Xperia M2 will be “the slimmest 4G smartphone [with an 8.6mm profile,] with the best smartphone camera and largest qHD display in its class.”
The phone will also be available in a dual SIM version, and will come in Sony’s standard’s three color options including black, white and purple.
The Xperia M2 will launch in various markets starting with April 2014, although specific release dates aren’t offered. When it comes to pricing, the M2 is expected to retail for less than €220, although the actual price is not available yet, and will vary by market. Buyers interested in getting the Xperia M2 should know the phone will launch with three blockbuster movies preloaded including Captain Phillips and White House Down, as well as 30 days free trial of Music Unlimited.
