While El Jobso is busy complaining that currently available Flash Mobile Player solutions aren’t up to snuff, Microsoft is wheeling and dealing. Adobe has announced today that the west-coast giant officially licensed its Flash Lite and Reader LE solutions for implementation on the Windows Mobile OS. Reader LE support will of course provide OEM PDF functionality, further enhancing the platform’s business usability. Flash Lite on the other hand will go great lengths to jazz up Web experiences on Windows Mobile devices. A Flash Lite browser plug in is already in development and it will be extremely well received by Windows Mobile licensees and users alike. Once integrated, the Windows Mobile browser will be able to display websites containing the rich and interactive Flash content that we all know and kind of love, right out of the box.
“People want vibrant web experiences and access to entertainment and information anywhere, anytime,” said John O’Rourke, general manager, Mobile Communications Business at Microsoft Corp. “Bringing Flash Lite and Reader LE to the Windows Mobile experience will give consumers more of their favorite websites on the go.”
Right on. Nokia’s N95 8GB was the first S60 handset to feature integrated Flash Lite out of the box and firmware updates will continue to add Flash to many other currently available handsets as well. We can only hope that Microsoft will follow suit and provide a means for updating current devices. By the way, it’s a good thing Adobe’s press release wasn’t posted solely as a PDF; what a PIA those are…
