HTC on Sunday confirmed earlier reports that a new round of layoffs swept the company’s U.S. headquarters late last week. Multiple initial reports suggested as many as 150 jobs were cut, however the actual figure was apparently much lower. “[The layoffs were] a decisive action by HTC Corp (US) to streamline and optimize our organization and improve efficiencies after several years of aggressive growth,” HTC said in a statement to AllThingsD, which noted that about 30 jobs were cut this past Friday. HTC’s statement continued, “This is a hard decision that has direct impact on people who have contributed to the growth HTC has experienced the past several years. However, to achieve our long-term goals as a business and return maximum value to our shareholders, this is a necessary step to drive ongoing innovation.” Earlier this month, HTC posted unaudited August revenue that declined about 47% from the same month last year.
