Apple’s panel suppliers have reportedly been told to decrease display shipments for the iPad 2 as orders from the Cupertino, California-based company slow in the fourth quarter. Samsung, LG Display and Chimei Innolux have all seen panel orders from Apple decline in the fourth quarter according to a report from DigiTimes, which could leave a huge surplus of parts in the supply chain. The report states that Apple is controlling iPad 2 panel orders to make way for its next-generation iPad model, for which displays began shipping in October. Apple sold more than 11 million iPad tablets in the third quarter, and the report claims Apple’s manufacturing partners could ship as many as 15-16 million units in the holiday quarter.
