I love my Jawbone UP3. Quality control issues continue to plague Jawbone, but the device and accompanying app are fantastic. I recently lost 50 pounds in just three months, and there is absolutely no question that UP bands and software were instrumental in my success.

As I continue to lose weight — now down about 75 lbs — and improve my health, Jawbone’s products still play an integral role for me. But there is one area where the UP falls short, and a former Apple engineer has stepped up to fill that huge gap.

The original Moov is still the smartest smart band on the market today. It’s not a fitness tracker, but rather a motion tracker tied to intelligent mobile software that coaches you through various workouts and helps improve your form as you exercise.

On Thursday, Moov unveiled version 2 of its popular wearable, and it’s called the Moov Now.

The Moov Now features a new design and new colors, and it’s also packed with new sensors to improve accuracy. The most impressive thing about the new hardware, however, is likely its battery life: The Moov Now lasts for 6 months of typical usage on a single charge.

“The market is saturated with fitness trackers that all do the same thing – passive activity tracking. MOOV NOW goes beyond basic data, and coaches users through every swim, run, training session and more,” said Moov co-founder and former Apple engineer Meng Li. “We’ve amassed over a year’s worth of data for even more precise and intelligent workout analysis, and we’re excited to introduce MOOV NOW as the next level of personal training.”

Moov tackled the unique virtual coaching aspect of wearables first, and now it’s also backing up into standard activity tracking as well. Steps, sleep and more will be recorded by the band and stored in Moov’s updated mobile app, which also combines all of the current workout apps into one.

Moov Now will begin shipping this fall and will cost $99.99, but preorders go live today on Moov’s website at a discounted price of $59.99. Moov’s full press release follows below.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – July 16, 2015 – Steps, calories, and the prescribed hours of sleep are all well and good, but can a fitness wearable actually push you harder and to your peak performance? Moov believes so, and is the first wearable that provides real-time feedback with actionable insight into every workout so that you not only know the number of miles you’ve run, but how to improve every movement.
