Can you imagine the backlash and media uproar we would see if Apple ever sold an accessory that ruined iPhone displays? “Casegate” would be sung far and wide, and even your local news anchor would demand on air that Apple take action. Well, you won’t see quite that amount of attention in this case, but it looks like Samsung is selling shoddy protective cases that leave customers with badly damaged smartphones.

DON’T MISS: The little red dot that saved me from my iPhone

In a thread on the XDA Developers forum, a Galaxy S6 edge owner posted a claim that his smartphone case scratched the display on his smartphone. He included a pair of photos showing the damage:

The interesting part, however, was that the case in question was an official Clear View case made by Samsung. This isn’t a cheap third-party case we’re talking about here, where shoddy craftsmanship might be expected.

More users chimed in, saying that their phones had also been damaged by the pricey Samsung case. The issue seems to be that there is some play on the front of the case that allows it to move slightly, even when it is closed. If there is any dirt or dust trapped between the front of the case and the display, this movement causes it to grind into the screen and leave scratches.

Samsung has not yet addressed the issue publicly, but several users say that they are speaking with Samsung’s customer care department in an effort to resolve the issue. Several additional photos of affected phones follow below.
