Sprint getting Wi-Fi Motorola XOOM followed by WiMAX variant

Exclusive

This is just bizarre. We’ve independently confirmed that Sprint will be first selling the Wi-Fi version of the Motorola XOOM. That’s correct — the carrier will indeed be getting a Motorola XOOM with support for Sprint’s 4G WiMAX network — however, it won’t be for an unspecified amount of time. No word on whether this is due to technical issues related to Android Honeycomb or possibly an exclusive arrangement with Motorola and Verizon Wireless.

Costco has been selling the WiFi XOOM for a couple of weeks now for $589.

    I don’t understand.

Whatever. I think the fact that the SD card has been fixed and is operational is juicier news.

If you’re haven’t heard head over to XDA or a Motorola Xoom forum and look it up. It’ll probably be on the front page.

They will likely bundle it with some sort of hotspot device and give away the hotspot device free, just like cellular south did.

    Huh? More facts? Please?

Improper sentence organization. The first sentence confirms that you have independently confirmed the Wi-Fi version of the XOOM, but in the very next sentence you say, “[That's correct, Sprint will be getting the WiMax version.]” Extremely poor writing and grammatical structure.

Dickwad… this isn’t Boy Grammar Report. Further, that’s a nice site you have there, “Korey.” It gets so much traffic that your site displays “N/A” under Quantcast’s estimated US monthly people. Don’t make me look up your comScore #s. What a shitty way to building linkbacks to your shitty site by commenting here. And interestingly enough, you have no original content on your site. Just curated content stolen from other sites. When you produce your own original shit, then come critique others.

      • http://www.briefmobile.com Korey Nicholson

Nice twitter account. Also you need to do a little more research before you speak ;)

Though it may not be Boy Grammar Report, it is a website that which people read. And I’m not the only one that noticed that the wording on this was screwed up. There is a reason why we take English in school.

As well, stolen content? I guess every site in the world steals content then, so you are being an extreme hypocrite. Everyone post news originally reported from other sites. That’s why there is such thing as “Source” at the bottom of articles.

Also, our site hasn’t been “Quantified” as per their site. I just checked it myself and you have to get them to do it for each site. So your “shitty site” that you use to get made up numbers is the real “shitty site.” I have never even heard of it. How about using an actual known “Site Rating” company.

      • http://twitter.com/endlessct9a John C.

Jackass, do some research. All you have to do is drop a couple lines of JS code on your site but perhaps you don’t know how to do that either. Incidentally, Quantcast is a REAL site rating company but you wouldn’t know that since you don’t have any direct advertisers. And you aren’t “quantified” on comScore either, the de facto source in the industry for core site metrics. But of course, you’d have to shell out some $$ for that which you clearly don’t have since you have no direct advertisers.

XOOM has been a fail since day 1. Promised upgraded hardware that has to be sent back to upgrade. A pricing structure that makes no sense. Lack of proper model choices (WiFi / cellular / storage options). Basic SD feature not working since day 1.. Maybe they will get it right next time, hopefully.

      Fail? really? You own one?
Because I am very happy with mine and so is everyone I know that has one…

      • http://www.briefmobile.com Korey Nicholson

        Totally agreed. +1 Zapote

Yes I did own one. I enjoyed the concept but paying that much money for a tablet that was half-complete at launch was not logical. I could not justify the purchase so returned the device for a full refund.

A majority of my smartphone’s have been Android. I have had a few Windows Mobile devices and just got the iPhone 4. I have enjoyed the Android OS (for the most part, it has its flaws) and was hoping I could finally have a good Android based tablet, XOOM failed to meet the expectations. That is why I am hoping that next time they will get it right from day 1. It may be nice now that the problems have smoothed out a little but they already lost me as a customer since it was poorly managed from launch.

Nice try at trying to justify the XOOM. If you like it, good. But trying to be an ass an assuming that you are superior because you actually own the device and use it everyday is retarded. Live your life. As the numbers show a majority of consumers don’t have the same view as you.

So you are saying you purchased one knowing all the issues before hand…yet…you still bought one. They didn’t spring the price on you…nor did they hide the fact that the SD card wasn’t enabled yet. The iPad will never have an SD card…but they still sell… Sounds like you went out to buy one just so you could say you had one…and returned it…Because none of your complaints were about how the device worked or its hardware or software flaws…you are complaining about price…lack of wifi only at launch, and only 32gb available at launch…Umm yeah that was stupid on Motos part…but yet you still bought one (O_o)… Look if you didnt really have the money for one…you should have waited…You are a fool and/or a Poser

Joel that just goes to show u how narrow minded some people can be. 4G and the SD card or options the ipad will never have. True its not working now but it will be. What will u say when it does start working. With the I pad u have no choice.

Like Zapote said the Xoom is a great device, this past weekend I DJ for a party from my xoom with only an hdmi cable, no power or adapters worked like a charm. I’m writing this on my Xoom while connected to my bluetooth keyboard and showing on my 98 inch projector. If u like apple that’s fine, but don’t knock another product because its not made by apple. Some people like to have choices.

      • Joel

Refer to my reply to Zapote. If it works for you great, I do not need all those extras. I had the device and it didn’t meet my expectations. If you enjoy it, good for you.

All those bluetooth accessories and needing to hook it up to every device under the sun is not something that I utilize in my profession. I need something that is compact, thin, and light weight and can carry my work files around and provide more access than a smartphone.

Umm Sounds like you need a Laptop…cuz if you haven’t noticed….Theres not much more a Tablet will ever do than a Smartphone…besides be easier to look at…and make some tasks a little easier…

It doesn’t sound like you know what you want at all…just do us all a favor and get an iPad 2…Android isn’t for the weak minded unsure of themselves population

  • tabletsvspcs

Agreed Motorola didn’t really think this through. And Sprint is not going to give you iPad numbers considering they sold 100k on VZW. I just don’t see Android Tablets being successful. These manufactures do not make money if they go head to head with apple pricing. It kind of hard when apple buys all the parts months in advance and at millions at a time. Look at Foxconns growth in the last 5 years thanks to apple. Ask RIM about why there playbook has been delayed and why Samsung is panicing and hoping there new Tab can compete because if they dont move big numbers they don’t make any money!

    • Anonymous

No one is expecting it to do ipad numbers…No one device will ever outsell any of the cult like iOS products…period. But in the long run Android will reign supreme in the tablet market the same way it is starting to in the smartphone market.

Well ebay is full of them and they’re not selling. If you really want one you might be able to grab one from ebay cheap. I know one person who brought one and took it back within 2 days, he said they’re only about 17 apps for it and they sucked.
