Forget huge milestones in human achievement like the moon landing and the polio vaccine; when an alien race stumbles upon the remains of our once-great civilization eons from now, the Coca-Cola selfie bottle will be seen as our most valuable contribution to the universe.
Created by ad agency Gefen Team, the bottle looks normal until you get to the bottom, where the typical clear plastic vessel has been wedged into a thick red plastic contraption. A raised lip houses the camera itself, while sensors inside the base monitor the angle at which the bottle is being tipped.

When in use, the sensor activates the camera once the bottle has been tipped past a 70-degree angle, ensuring that every sip is preserved for posterity. There’s no screen or display of any kind on the bottle or the base, but a USB port on the side allows the photos to be browsed via a computer.
Gefen Team created the bottle as part of Coca-Cola Israel‘s “Summer Love” event, and there doesn’t seem to be any plans to actually sell the bottle at retail. That’s a real shame, because if there’s one thing that’s really missing on social media these days, it’s people in the process of drinking soda.
We can only hope that other brands pick up on the genius of the selfie bottle and apply it to their own products. I, for one, would love a Starbucks selfie mug, which snaps a pic of my dumb, sleepy face as I desperately refuel my brain with precious caffeine every morning.
