Sprint chairman Masayoshi Son thinks that America’s Internet service is “terrible,” including the wireless data service provided by his own company. CNET reports that at Re/code’s conference this week, Son once again laid into America’s ISPs and wondered why we bothered putting up with them and their pricey, subpar services.
“At my home in Silicon Valley I say, oh my God, how can America live like this?” he said.
Son in particular lashed out at Verizon and AT&T, which he called a wireless duopoly, and at Comcast, which he noted had a monopoly on wireline services throughout huge parts of the country. He also once again pledged that if Sprint were to buy T-Mobile, he would deliver faster wireless data services at lower prices than the competition.
Son definitely knows how to win over Americans’ hearts and minds, especially since we love to hate our main Internet service providers such as Comcast and Time Warner Cable. However, he still has a lot of work to do to convince people that letting Sprint buy T-Mobile is a good idea especially because Sprint has a long history of botched mergers and poor customer satisfaction ratings that are consistently the worst in the wireless industry.
