While speaking with Microsoft’s head of marketing in the U.K., Oded Ran, blog mymicrosoftlife.com learned that Sony Ericsson is actively working on at least one Windows Phone 7 device. The company, which is struggling to make an identity for itself in the smartphone marketplace, has yet to publicly announce a Windows Phone 7 hanset; although there CEO did say they had a few “big surprises” coming in the next few months. This information comes days after the company’s new chief technology officer announced that they would no longer be developing Symbian-based devices. “Android is definitely our focus, but we have not given up on Microsoft’s Windows Mobile operating system, although it had a bit slow to take off. But Windows 7 Phone is on the roadmap,” said CTO Jan Uddenfelt. We’re interested to see if Sony Ericsson can delivery a winning Windows Phone 7 device in a timely manner… let’s hope so.

UPDATE: The author of the article has since reneged on their quote. Apparently, Mr. Oded said Sony Ericsson is a Windows Phone 7 partner, not that they are actively building a device. Regardless, the company has said WP7 is “on the roadmap.” Let’s hope it gets to the factory sooner rather than later.
