Following the success of recent “Port-A-Thons” that quickly added 35,000 potential new BlackBerry 10 apps to RIM’s catalog, Research in Motion (RIMM) has announced that it has extended the deadline for its Built For BlackBerry initiative. The company is allowing developers to apply for the program, which certifies BlackBerry applications and offers a $10,000 Developer Commitment, until February 18th. RIM previously said that it will pay certified app developers the difference between net sales and $10,000 for any app that makes at least $1,000. BlackBerry 10 is scheduled to debut at a press conference on January 30th. RIM has taken a number of steps to ensure that its new operating system will be supported by more than 70,000 apps at launch.
