Here’s the good news: If you’re willing to spend $600 on a console, you’ve probably already done so by now, which means you won’t miss out on much. However, if the 80GB Playstation 3 is what has put you over the edge and caused you to decide six bones is worth it, beware the “Emotion Engine.” This chip is designed to be a hardware-based solution to all your backwards-compatible PS1 and PS2 desires. However, it isn’t going to be a part of the new 80-gig offering, forcing a software-based solution. Right now, it’s in the newly-discounted 60GB models, and there’s no word if they’re going to eliminate the Emotion Engine chip completely. Wait…does anyone with a PS3 even play older games other than Guitar Hero II anymore?
