Motorola exec: Every smartwatch released so far has been ‘pretty crappy’

Motorola executive Mark Randall is saying what a lot of other gadget watchers are thinking: The smartwatches we’ve seen released so far are nothing to get excited about. In fact, in an interview with Trusted Reviews, Randall goes so far as to say that every smartwatch that’s been released to date has been “pretty crappy.”

“People just don’t want to wear them,” Randall said of today’s current smartwatches. “We look at the [Moto] 360 and we look at what everyone has done in that space. To be honest we think they are all pretty crappy.”

Obviously, Randall is hoping all this changes when Motorola finally releases the Moto 360, which has been the one smartwatch revealed so far that has earned acclaim for its eye-catching design.

“People are saying it is finally a device they would wear on their arm instead of being embarrassed about, and we haven’t even talked about functionality,” he told Trusted Reviews.

We’re still in the very early days of smartwatches but so far no company has really released a device that has caught on in a big way, including smartwatches from big-name electronics vendors Samsung and Sony. Full specs and pricing for the Moto 360 are still unconfirmed at this time and we only know so far that the device is slated to release in the second half of 2014.
